(As well as Ross Colman who was killed in 1967, I also trained with Rog Crane. He had really wanted to be a shipwright, and was very put out when he was made an ERA instead. His passion in life was canoeing, and the accident occurred when he was on his way to an event, sideswiped by a lorry. From recollection, he made a trip white-water rafting down the
Grand Canyon, and he was that good, he was in the lineup for selection to the GB canoe team for the 1976 Olympic Games. I remember his coffin with cap being bought into the church in Devonport for the funeral service. Rog's parents donated a cup - The Roger Crane Memorial Trophy - which is competed for in the annual Devizes-Westminster Canoe race for the fastest Royal Navy Crew - with thanks to David Clark, ex-Engine Room Artificer  Apprentice.)
